Stop Hair from Breaking Ever Again!

Having to deal with hair breakage can be a nightmare. It’s annoying and can be hard to prevent, but we’ve composed tips from the experts that can help you put an end to the pesky breakage!

  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Curly hair tends to be naturally dry, which leads to brittle hair that breaks easily. Replenish your natural moisture by using oil on a daily basis.
  • Get trims regularly. Even if you are trying to grow out your hair, regular trims are a must! The split ends need to be trimmed off to prevent further damage up the shaft of the hair.
  • Don’t overdo it on the protein. Protein can be great for your hair and can give it much needed strength, but too much use over time can actually leave hair brittle and prone to breakage.
  • Let your hair down. Keeping your hair in braids or pony tails can be a great way to avoid tangles, but every now and then, let your hair down. The tension placed on your hair when it’s pulled back can eventually lead to breakage.
  • Be careful of the heat. It’s impossible to avoid using tools that will heat your hair (hair dryer, flat iron, etc.) but be sure you are using the correct heat settings when using them or they will severely damage your hair. You can also use a protectant spray to add protection to your delicate strands prior to using your heat tool.
  • Keep your scalp healthy. A healthy scalp is critical for healthy hair. Be sure to give it a good scrub and massage every time you shampoo.
  • Silk is your friend. Try sleeping on a silk pillowcase or with your hair wrapped in a silk cloth. Silk is much kinder to your hair than cotton and won’t rob your hair of the moisture it so desperately needs. It will also allow your hair to move around freely instead of causing friction and breakage.
