Tips to Keep Your Feet Lookin’ Hot This Summer

You bare a lot during the warm summer months, and that includes your feet. Walking barefoot along with the heat from the sun can wreak havoc on your feet. Keep those puppies looking their best this summer with these easy tips!

Exfoliate Weekly

Use an exfoliating foot scrub at least once per week.  Exfoliating will help you get rid of dry skin cells on the surface, leaving feet looking and feeling smoother. Your moisturizer will be more effective when you eliminate the layer of dead skin first. Try using a salt scrub unless you have very dry skin, then opt for a sugar based scrub because salt can be dehydrating.

Don’t Soak Your Feet

Soaking your feet might seem like a good idea, but it actually can further dehydrate your skin, leaving them worse off. Instead, apply the scrub directly to your dry feet then wipe off with a moist towel.

Use a Pumice Stone

Using a pumice stone every 1-2 days will keep your feet silky smooth. When applying pressure, use less on soft, delicate areas of skin and apply more pressure to areas that are calloused or extra dry.

Moisturize Heavily

The best time to apply lotion is immediately following the shower. This will help you retain the moisture that your feet have already absorbed. To get maximum benefits from your moisturizer, apply again at night right before bed. Also, pay special attention to your heels. They are prone to over-use and also are protected by a thicker layer of skin so this area is harder to penetrate.

Let Toes Breathe

Nails are a living part of your body and they need to breathe every now and then. It is also advised to give your nails a breather from nail polish once per month. Keeping your toes polish free for a few days at a time will allow them to breath, which in turn lets nails have a healthy growth pattern. It will also prevent discoloration that can occur from repeated use of nail polish, especially darker colors.
