Heal and Conceal That Nasty Bug Bite NOW!

Summertime means lots of time outdoors and with that can come nasty bug bites. Dealing with bug bites can be a real pain, with all the itching and scratching. Bug bites can be hard enough to deal with when they are on your feet or arms, but what about when they are on your face? We have just the guide you need to handle those pesky bug bites and get you back to enjoying your summer festivities in no time!

First, Let it Heal

All of the itching and scratching can leave your bite marks vulnerable to infection. If the bite looks like a blister or has large, red, juicy bumps, it’s very important to keep the area clean to avoid an infection from skin bacteria. You may also want to apply a bandaid to give additional protection. Typically, insect bites go away in a week but using a topical steroid cream, like hydrocortisone, can really speed up the process. Another option to help fight irritation is to use an oral antihistamine, such as Allegra. This will help to alleviate the itching and redness.

Once Healed, Conceal

Do not try to cover up the bite with makeup until it has started to heal. Once the bite has dried out and is no longer swollen, you won’t have to worry as much about infection so it’s ok to start using makeup as a concealer. As extra precaution against infection, apply makeup with clean fingers and brushes only. If you notice that the bite is getting irritated as you apply makeup, remove it immediately. If the bug bite is flesh-toned, use an exact skin shade as concealer. If the bite is still red, you can use a green color corrector to cover up the red first. After applying the color corrector, follow up with a shade that matches your skin tone. Make sure you blend the edges so you don’t draw attention to the area you are trying to hide.

Fading Your Bug Bite Scars

After your bite is long gone, it is still possible to see brown patches left behind. These are scars from the bite and can occur especially if you picked at the bite. These brown patches can easily be treated using a topical silicone gel. You can get creams and gels over the counter that will help fade scars or you can also get a prescription from your dermatologist.
